Epic Animé, Anyone?

Finally sembreak has arrived and 4 days into my sembreak I'm at a loss for a new "epic" animé. Yes, I may be an animé fan but I do know how to choose my own faves. Just recently, like 10min ago, I found out that one of the series I'm completely psyched about has come to an end. D.gray-man has come to an end with only 103 episodes, though I haven't watched the 95th+ episodes, still it came as a shock to me. Then I realized that though there are some good to decent new series being released every season, only some can be called an "epic".

Like for instance, One Piece is one of the longest running series out there and it continues to get better and better with 372 episodes and still counting. Yet, for others like Death Note and Claymore- some of the best if not the greatest (in my opinion) of their genres, have also come to an end but up till now, no new series compares not even come close to how good these series are.

So I've come to a dilemma of finding new series that would spark my interest and may be added to my list of "epic" animé. So far, with the first episodes of the new releases, I haven't found what I've been longing to see. I hope that as the seasons come and go, there would be yet another "Death Note", "Claymore", "D. Gray-man" out there that would hook me up in an instant. ^__^

Fruits Basket: I'm Loving Cats Instead

At first, I was reluctant in giving Fruits Basket (FB) a try because I thought it was one of those series which would only leave you depressed and in tears but once I started watching it, ooohhh how wrong I was for thinking it was depressing! What I got was a wacky set of characters and episodes full of mix emotions and subtle feelings of contentment and joy. This post is not an On Focus post but it would be solely dedicated to Honda Tohru and Sohma Kyo. Sorry for those TohruXYuki or other pairings ^__^. I'm loving cats instead..^__^

The Profile of Love

Tohru Honda is a 16yr old girl who lost her mother in an accident. She ended up staying in a tent near the Souma's House where her classmate Yuki "the Prince" Sohma lives. When Yuki and Shigure found out that she had been living in a tent near them, they invited her to stay and their home, adventures begin as she discovered their family secret: If they are hugged by the opposite gender, they transform into animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

Kyo Sohma is cursed with the spirit of the cat which was not part of the Chinese Zodiac. Legend has it that the cat was tricked by the mouse into thinking that the feast (prepared by the God) was held on a certain date causing the cat to miss it entirely. This was the reason why the cat was not recognized as part of the Chinese Zodiac. Kyo had sworn to defeat Yuki Sohma (The Rat) in order to claim his proper seat in the Zodiac.

Then They Met

I've always loved the chemistry between Kyo and Tohru right from the moment they met. Kyo is a very hot-headed guy who does not know how to control his anger which leads him to accidentally hurt Tohru physically or emotionally, but Tohru being, hmm can I say "passive" ,forgives him all the time. You can see right from the moment he first apologized to her that there is something between them that clicked^__^

One
the first sweet moments I remember was when Tohru was called by her grandfather and was asked to come and live with him again. Kyo and the others was totally depressed when Tohru wasn't around specially Kyo. He admitted it himself when they came to get Tohru back. It was totally kawaii of him to be so confused as to why he was so upset with Tohru not around him (Tohru is a lucky girl)*__*

And when he grabbed her hand to lead her home was one of the finest moments of FB. KYAAAA!!

Next would be the time when he got "jealous" when other guys from their school tried to ask Tohru out when he was busy waiting for Momiji and Hatsuharu to come out of their classroom. He listened intently to what the other boys were talking about and when he found out that they were planning to ask Tohru out he comes to her rescue scaring the hell out of those boys!! (of course without letting Tohru know^^)

Aww they look so totally kawaii; Tohru with that innocent/ surprised look in her eyes and Kyo staring intently into her. If I was in Tohru's place I would have totally melted.^__^ In my little dreamland, I think Kyo was really jealous when Tohru was about to get asked by another guy and so he said that she should stay alert when she's alone. The cutest part was when he said that: It was okay to be "out of it" when he was around ^___^ (Kyo, you should be the Knight in shining armor!!^^)

Next would be when Tohru got sick and they were all worried about her. Kyo on the other hand searched for food that could make her feel better but all he could find were food with leeks on it (he hated leeks, by the way^^). But despite this he cooked her soup with leeks on it just to make her feel better.^__^ He even listened to her when she was about to break down and cry, and said that if she wanted, he could cook for her anytime but she should just get better and be her normal self again^^ Kyo's the sweetest cat I know!!^__^

There are still a number of sweet moments that I really can't afford to go through one by one. But the best Tohru X Kyo moment would be the last 3 episodes (I think?) of the series. These last three episodes shows that Tohru really cares for Kyo unlike any other. It was in these episodes that Tohru saw the "monster" inside Kyo. At first she got scared (of course! who wouldn't get scared??) but in the end she admitted to Kyo that she was indeed very scared, but she still wanted to be with him. Kyo was moved by this and said that it was okay to be afraid, that being afraid was proof that she saw the real him but still she wanted to be with him. For me, that was the most moving part of the series, though there had been plenty of moving scenes, still this one just sticks to my mind and heart^__^

I still can't get over FB even after watching the series, that's why I'm off to reading the manga and hopefully, I'll enjoy it as much as I did with the series. Kyo and Tohru are perfect for those Subtle Hints that shows that love doesn't come in grand gifts and expressions of feelings. So I ship Tohru and Kyo for the best pair in Fruits Basket. This is it for this post dedicated to both of them. See you all next time^__^ Ja ne~

P.S I hate cats!! I mean yes, they are cute and sweet but I have this weird fear whenever one comes close to me.^_^ so Kyo would be the only cat which I could ever love.redfacelol
